Sunday, June 4th, 2017 -- 8:24 AM
The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board has approved its deer hunting season framework and antlerless deer quotas for 2017.The Wisconsin Ag Connection reports that during its monthly meeting in Madison last week, members of the panel said their framework reflects recommendations from the County Deer Advisory Council, as well as from feedback received by the public in a recent questionnaire. This fall, four deer management units within the Northern and Central Forest zones will allow only bucks to be harvested, while the rest of Wisconsin will have a total quota of 276,515 antlerless deer. The sale of bonus antlerless deer hunting tags will include 31,945 tags valid on public access lands and 168,210 tags valid on private lands. In addition, Farmland Zone antlerless tags will be available with the purchase of every deer hunting license.
Meanwhile, a Holiday Hunt will be held within 17 counties and provide for an additional antlerless-only opportunity for firearm hunters during the week between Christmas and New Years. The DNR's deer hunting website will be updated within the coming weeks with a number of helpful resources regarding hunting 2017 quotas and season framework
