Clark County Tourism Commitee Discusses Important Tourism Numbers

Friday, May 19th, 2017 -- 10:10 AM

-The Clark County Tourism Committee heard and discussed some data on the county’s tourism numbers to start their meeting on Wednesday.

Tourism plays a vital role in Wisconsin’s economy having a $20 billion impact for 2016. That’s up $700 million or 3.5% compared to 2015. There were over 107.7 million visitors to the state in 2016 and international travel was over $100 million in 2016. It also generated $1.5 billion in state and local revenue, saving taxpayers about $650 per household. The industry also supports about 35% of all recreation jobs and 23% of all food and beverage jobs. The Wisconsin Department of Tourism has stepped up its marketing of the state in recent years to bring more people in.

Clark County has seen substantial growth in regards to tourism dollars. Back in 2008, Clark County was ranked 62nd in the state for tourism having an impact of .31% of the total dollars. Due to increase efforts the past several years, the county is now ranked 56 in the state. This has a huge impact on Clark County, including the county sales tax, which has already seen an increase of $25,100.31 in the first three months of 2017 compared to the first three months of 2016.
