Neillsville City Council Hears More Concerns About New Hospital Location

Friday, May 12th, 2017 -- 11:10 AM

-The Neillsville City Council continues to hear praise and grievances over the location selected for Memorial Medical Center’s new facility.

At the April 25th council meeting, Don Boon appeared before the council and offered a list of complaints and questions on why Memorial Medical Center had chosen the River Avenue location outside of Neillsville to build when, he felt, there were places in town they could build. He returned to the May 9th meeting with a new list of questions and grievances on why MMC chose that location. His questions/concerns included why that location as, he feels, that land is 1/3 wetlands and has no infrastructure. He also said there was concern from the elderly population who may not want to drive that far to go to the hospital or Snitemans Pharmacy if they move to that location. He also questioned how ambulance parking would be affected by this change.

In the end, Don stated that he wasn’t against this project; he just feels that MMC needs to rethink where they’re going to build the new facility. It was also made clear by the City Council that, at this point in time, they have no say in the matter. They can’t force MMC to choose a new location even if they don’t think they should build there.
