Marshfield's Annual Tourism Banquet

Friday, May 12th, 2017 -- 8:05 AM

(WDLB) -Marshfield tourism was a big part of a nearly four-percent increase in overall visitor spending in Wood County in 2016.

That's what Marshfield Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Matt McClean said during his annual tourism banquet last night. The C-V-B held its annual event at the Holiday Inn Convention Center downtown, where McClean highlighted a very successful 2016. McClean also said nearly 12-million dollars in state and local taxes were generated by traveler spending in Wood County last year, a three-point-three-percent increase over 2015. McClean also noted that there were over 22-hundred jobs sustained by tourism in 2016, which is a two-percent increase.

The new tourism numbers come out as the Marshfield Convention and Visitors Bureau celebrates 25 years in 2017--which also includes the 25th anniversary of one of the C-V-B's signature events--Maple Fall Fest in September. The 25th Maple Fall Fest will be held September 16th and 17th at Wildwood Park. And that event was voted the "Best Festival" in Marshfield, in the C-V-B's annual "Best of Marshfield" contest. Other winners announced last night include the Marshfield Chamber's annual Dairyfest, which was voted the city's best family-friendly event for 2017. The annual Rotary Winter Wonderland Holiday light display was voted as the best tourist attraction. And Jurustic Park was named as Marshfield's best-kept secret.
