Wisconsin Moves in List of Top 10 Best States for Business

Tuesday, May 9th, 2017 -- 9:05 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -For the first time ever, Wisconsin has moved into the list of top 10 best states in the nation for business.

That's according to Chief Executive Magazine, which has been ranking states for the past 13 years. The publication further noted that the number of graduates in STEM fields within the the University of Wisconsin System has been steadily growing since 2009. Just over 7,300 undergraduate and 1,620 graduate degrees in STEM fields were conferred by the UW system in 2015, compared to 5,150 undergraduate and 1,240 graduate degrees about eight years ago.

Governor Scott Walker's office was quick to praise the findings, claiming the state was among the worst states for business with a ranking of 41 before he took office. CEO Magazine put Texas as the top state in the nation to do business with, followed by Florida. The worst states on the list for 2017 were New York and California, mainly because of its high taxes.
