Marshfield Veteran Honored with "Quilt of Valor"

Monday, May 8th, 2017 -- 9:24 AM

(WDLB) -A Marshfield veteran was honored Sunday with a "Quilt of Valor".

97-year-old Don Krasin was surprised with the honor, during what he thought was simply a birthday party at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield. Sunday's quilt presentation was made by Karen Demaree, the state coordinator for the Wisconsin chapter of the "Quilts of Valor Foundation". The group's mission is to cover those touched by war with healing and comforting quilts.

Krasin served in what was then called the U.S. Army Air Corps and Air Forces from 1940 until 1945--the whole time serving stateside as an aerial engineer instructor. Krasin returned to Marshfield in 1945, and started work with his family's construction business. The "Quilts of Valor" organization was founded in 2003. The organization has awarded over 157-thousand quilts during its nearly 15-year history. Visit qovf.org for more information on how to make a quilt, get one made or request one.
