Greenwood elementary school teacher Scott Moseley was one of 4 area teachers to win the annual Crystal Apple Award for outstanding achievement. The Marshfield News Herald reports that the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce Foundation and its awards committee announced the winners Tuesday during surprise visits to each teacher's school.
The four teachers were selected from among 325 Marshfield-area educators who had been nominated by students, parents and faculty at their schools. That list was narrowed to 25 Teachers of Distinction, who then interviewed with a Selection Committee of business representatives that picked the Crystal Apple winners based on expertise, innovation, leadership and presentation.
Moseley has taught all subjects at Greenwood for the past three years. Among Moseley's achievements was the development of the Chuck Puba Nature Center at Greenwood Elementary, a project for which he led the fundraising and design.
Moseley said that part of his teaching philosophy involves getting to know students' lives outside the classroom.
Each Crystal Apple winner will receive a $1,000 prize during an awards ceremony in October.
