-The Owen City Council heard about the Board of Review at their meeting last week. The City Clerk reported that the annual Board of Review for the City of Owen will be held on May 10th from 9 am to 11 am. Open Book will occur on Monday, May 8th from 2 pm to 4 pm, which allows citizens to speak directly to the City Assessor at City Hall. Four council members plus the City Clerk are needed for BOR. The clerk also reported that no one has filed a petition against the Raze Order that was delivered on May 3rd for some property in the city. The council approved to have the Director of Public Works obtain quotes for tearing the home down and talk to the Fire Chief about removing the house.
Also, discussion took place regarding the Residency Requirement for Emergency Personnel. Other municipalities were contacted to inquire what their policies are. Most have a 15-mile requirement and one has none. Owen’s Police Chief brought up the Emergency Management Plan and stated those listed in it are considered emergency personnel and had to abide by the requirement. The City Clerk proposed she would like to get confirmation of that from a legal source which was approved by the council.
