Colby Breaks Ground for New Public Library

(WDLB) -Ground was broken last night for Colby's new public library.A ceremony kicking off the building project was held on the site of the former Colby School District Administration Building, where the new library will be constructed. Library Director Vicky Calmes said the goal is to complete the project in December. Calmes said an anonymous donor came forward over a year ago, and got the project going. She said that donor did not attend last night's ground-breaking ceremony, and did not want their name on the new facility, either.
Additional funding for the project has been secured from the city of Colby and from a state community development block grant. The rest is coming from donations, and Calmes said over 200 individuals have shown support. She also noted that several area businesses have donated to the project by sponsoring naming rights for certain areas of the new building. S-D Ellenbecker of Athens is the general contractor for the nearly 11-thousand square-foot facility, which will replace the existing Colby Public Library. That service has operated out of the Colby City Hall building for the past 25 years.
