Wisconsin Farmers Average Milk Price in March

Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $18.00 per hundredweight for their milk in March.According to the latest USDA Agricultural Prices report, that's $1.00 lower than February's price, but $2.20 higher than the same time a year earlier. The U.S. milk price for March was $17.30 per cwt, 70 cents lower than Wisconsin's and $1.20 below the previous month. With the exception of Florida, all of the 23 major milk producing states had a decrease in price from February to March--with Idaho and California taking the largest hit.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.52 per pound on April 27, while barrels were $1.42 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.12 per pound. For the week ending April 22, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.50 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.47 per pound.
