(WDLB) -Marshfield High School’s National Ocean Sciences Bowl team is coming off a second place finish last weekend, at the National Finals of the 20th Annual National Ocean Sciences Bowl in Oregon.A team from Santa Monica High School in California won the top award, for its first national championship. Marshfield’s was one of 25 teams competing for the national crown, after passing through regional rounds of competition earlier this year. Teams from North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia rounded out the top five. And for their second-place efforts, the Marshfield team has earned an all-expense paid trip to New Jersey, to join local experts in conducting scientific research. The Marshfield team has done well at the National Ocean Sciences Bowl. They won four national titles from 2009-2012, and they came in second at nationals in 2016 as well. They’ve also won the regional Lake Sturgeon Bowl three years in a row.
Meanwhile, two Marshfield High School students have earned a perfect score on their A-C-T tests. Juniors Joshua Colby and David Gui both scored 36. On average, less than one-tenth of one-percent of students who take the A-C-T earn a top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2016, just over 22-hundred out of more than two-million graduates who took the test earned a composite score of 36.
