Marshfield Common Council to Consider Proposal on New Garbage and Recycling Pickup

(WDLB) -Marshfield residents would see a big change in garbage and recycling pickup, under a recommendation which goes to the Common Council on Tuesday. The Council will consider a proposal which was endorsed this past Monday by the city's Board of Public Works, which would have the city implement an automated pickup system, in which refuse and recycling workers would not have to leave their trucks to collect those materials. City Public Works Director Dan Knoeck says city residents would get one wheeled cart for garbage, and another for recycling, which workers could empty from their trucks.
Alderman Chris Jockheck has expressed concerns about an automated system, and whether residents would have enough room to set them out, or whether they would even set them out properly for a collection truck to grab them and dump them. The Council will consider two recommendations from the Public-Works Board on Tuesday. One is to go with the two-cart automated system, and the other is to bid the service out. The city's current garbage and recycling contract with Advanced Disposal expires at the end of the year.
