(WDLB) -The city council in Colby has advanced the community’s new library project. With two members absent, the council voted 5-to-1 last night in favor of a total project cost of two-point-two million dollars, and to award a general contractor bid to S.D. Ellenbecker of Athens. The library will be built on a five-acre parcel on West Spence Street which has been home to the Colby School District’s administrative offices.
Colby Library Director Vicky Calmes said an anonymous donor came forward in December of 2015 to spearhead the new library project. The city of Colby provided 500-thousand dollars, and another half-million came from a state community development block grant. The remaining one-point-two million will be covered by donors. Ground will be broken next month, and the project is scheduled for completion this November.
