2016 Record Year for Crops in Wisconsin

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -As expected, the 2016 crop year was one for the record books.For corn, the South Central District was the largest producing district in Wisconsin with 143 million bushels last year. Dane County was the largest corn producing county with 34 million bushels produced. Rock, Grant, Lafayette, and Dodge rounded out the top five. Lafayette led all counties in Wisconsin with a county-wide average yield of 203 bushels per acre.
And Wisconsin producers in the East Central District chopped 3.76 million tons of corn silage in 2016, representing 23 percent of the state's total. The South Central District produced 2.51 million tons of silage. Manitowoc County was the top corn silage producing county in Wisconsin with 747,000 tons of corn silage produced. Clark, Marathon, Grant and Kewaunee rounded out the top five. Trempealeau County had the highest average yield at 24.0 tons per acre.
