Marshfield City Officials File Suit Against Texas-Based Company

Friday, February 24th, 2017 -- 9:05 AM

(Marshfield News Herald) -Marshfield city officials have filed a $153,384 civil suit against a Texas-based company that processes sand used in oil drilling at its Marshfield plant.

Completion Industrial Minerals failed to pay its 2015 and 2016 personal property taxes, according to documents filed by the city of Marshfield with the Wood County Clerk of Courts. The company owes $45,610 for 2015 taxes and $43,022 for 2016, according to the documents. The city and company reached a payment agreement on the 2015 taxes, but the suit alleges the company didn't make the payments. Wood County has made payments to the city for the real estate taxes, the county pays municipalities whether or not the county gets paid and, at some point, the county likely will file its own case against Completion Industrial, if the company doesn't pay.

The taxes the city is trying to get payment on are the personal property taxes the company pays on the equipment it uses at the plant. The company also owes the city $153,384 for a wastewater agreement, according to the civil complaint. The company had agreed to make minimum payments that would reimburse the city for money it spent on infrastructure when it first opened its Marshfield plant in 2009.
