-The Owen City Council approved a radar speed sign at their meeting last week.

They also approved amending Ordinance Sec. 7-2-15 to allow carry outs of fermented malt beverages between 9 p.m. and midnight, to coincide with state statues. For the police report, Owen Police Chief Andy Schade reported that Officer Ryan Boie had satisfactorily completed a 32-hour Criminal Justice Instructor Development Course at CVTC. Officer Dulcie Lilly and Chief Schade also completed an Arson Investigators training program. During the public opinion portion of the meeting, one resident had a listing of properties he felt were not assessed for enough and. a list of buildings that need to be torn down.

Also, the council met their new city attorney. He then took the lead on an issue regarding a property on East 3rd Street, explaining the city’s different options. The item was tabled until the next council meeting at which time the council will have the needed paper work in front of them to move forward with this issue. Finally, they heard the CDC’s Report. Tim Swiggum reported he is waiting for the final grant application for the railroad project at Heartland and waiting to hear from the DNR on the VPLE insurance. The DRC met and set August 19th for the Car Show. Tim wrote a letter from the UCCC in support of the CCLRC expansion project.
