Governor Walker Relying on College Students and Families to Convince Lawmakers to Approve Tuition Cut

Friday, February 10th, 2017 -- 10:09 AM

(AP) -Gov. Scott Walker says he's counting on college students and families across the state to convince lawmakers to approve his 5 percent tuition cut.

Walker was traveling the state Thursday to defend the state budget he introduced to the state Legislature on Wednesday. Republican legislative leaders have been lukewarm on several provisions, including the call to cut University of Wisconsin tuition by 5 percent starting in 2018.

Walker told reporters Thursday in Milwaukee that the people of the state would sell his plan to the Legislature. He says he heard from high school students, their parents, grandparents and others that they're concerned about the cost of higher education. Walker says he hopes they talk with lawmakers to convince them of the merits of the plan.
