Democratic Legislators Reintroduce Bill to Allow People to Refinance Student Loans

(AP) -Democratic legislators have reintroduced a bill that would allow people to refinance their student loans through the state and claim payments as income tax deductions.Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay and Rep. Cory Mason of Racine told reporters at a news conference Tuesday that student loans are crushing young people's finances and the bill would help stimulate the economy.
Democrats introduced the bill in 2013 and again in 2015 but it never passed the Republican-controlled Legislature. The GOP has majorities in both the Assembly and Senate again this session, making it all but certain the bill won't get a floor vote.
