Marshfield School Board Holds Off on 4-Year-Old Kindergarten Program

(WDLB) -Marshfield's Board of Education is holding off for now on creating a four-year-old kindergarten program within its elementary schools. With one member absent, the Board voted 5-to-1 last night against a pilot program that would've moved some of the district's 4-K kids into classrooms, while keeping the rest where they've been, at various child care centers. Amber Kiggens-Leifheit, who used to run Marshfield's Pied Piper Pre-school program, was the only one to support the pilot program last night. She wanted to create four sections of half-day 4-K for four days a week.
Board President Marlene Stueland felt the child care centers should be given more time to improve and streamline what they're doing now, before the district takes all or part of it away from them. The school district currently has 4-K students in both morning and afternoon sessions Tuesdays through Fridays at seven different facilities throughout the Marshfield School District.
