Truck Drivers Hauling Petroleum in WI Exempt From Weight Limits
Sunday, February 5th, 2017 -- 5:38 AM
Truck drivers who transport petroleum products in Wisconsin will continue to be exempt from certain weight limits on most major highways.Gov. Scott Walker has extended his energy emergency declaration this week, which allows petroleum carriers to haul overweight loads of gas, oil and diesel products through February 27. The move was in response to the continued temporary closing of the West Shore Pipeline, which runs from Milwaukee to Green Bay.
Motor carriers providing relief to the affected area are able to travel into and throughout the state so that any potential gasoline and fuel shortages are avoided during the high demands of the winter season. These resources will also help businesses continue normal operations. Use of the West Shore Pipeline was halted last May because of an anomaly detected during a recent inspection.
