Possible New Parking for Grand Avenue

-The City of Neillsville may see a new parking rule for Grand Avenue.Grand Avenue runs the entire length of the City of Neillsville from Highway 10 to the city limits of West 18th Street. During the February 14th Neillsville Common Council meeting, Neillsville Police Chief Scott Klueckmann is going to present a discussion and action item designating that there can only be parking on the east side of Grand Avenue. In doing research, Chief Klueckmann has noticed that traffic can be heavy at times, especially south of West 5th Street causing bottlenecks as 2-way traffic attempts to navigate around parked vehicles on both sides of the streets.
In doing the research, Chief Klueckmann found that from 2007 to today, there have been 36 crashes on Grand Avenue with 8 of those involving parked vehicles. The chief has been approached by residents who live on the street and they are in support of the idea of designating only the east side of Grand Avenue for parking. This item has not passed yet and isn’t set in stone, but will be considered at the February 14th Common Council meeting.
