Milk Price for Wisconsin Farmers in December

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $19.70 per hundredweight for their milk in December, about $1.00 more than the previous month and $2.40 better than the same time a year earlier.That's according to the USDA's latest Agricultural Prices report, which notes it was highest price received since December 2014. The U.S. milk price for December was $18.80 per cwt, 90-cents lower than Wisconsin's price, but $1.20 higher than in November. New Mexico had the smallest price increase of the 23 major milk producing states, up just 50 cents at $16.10 per cwt., while Florida had the largest boost in price at $22.10 per cwt.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.70 per pound on January 31, while barrels were $1.51 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.24 per pound. For the week ending January 21, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.70 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.64 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $2.27 per pound.
