-February is American Heart Month and it’s also National Wear Red Day-Go Red for Women.According to the American Heart Association, heart failure is on the rise and cardiovascular diseases are the nation’s leading killer. National Wear Red Day is held the first Friday in February to bring awareness to the shocking statistics regarding heart disease in women. I spoke with Rebecca Rosandick, the Health Educator and Public Health Specialist with the Clark County Health Department, and she talked about National Wear Red Day.
"National Wear Red Day, or the Go Red for Women Campaign, takes place on February 3rd of this year. And on that day we encourage people to wear red to bring attention to the heart for American Heart Month. So, heart disease is the number one killer of American women. In 2013, it was responsible for about 23 of the total deaths of U.S. women. Heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths among women each year and killing approximately one women every 8 seconds. And currently, 8 million women in the U.S. are living with heart disease."
