American Heart Month and Go Red for Women, Part 4

Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 -- 11:36 AM

-February is American Heart Month and it’s also National Wear Red Day-Go Red for Women.

According to the American Heart Association, heart failure is on the rise and cardiovascular diseases are the nation’s leading killer. National Wear Red Day is held the first Friday in February to bring awareness to the shocking statistics regarding heart disease in women. I spoke with Rebecca Rosandick, the Health Educator and Public Health Specialist with the Clark County Health Department, and she talked about some of the symptoms of a heart attack.

"Some heart attacks are sudden and intense. And most start slowly with mild pain and/or discomfort. But often times, individuals aren't sure what's wrong and they end up waiting too long before they get help. But some common signs that may indicate a heart attack is occurring are chest discomfort, discomfort in other areas of the upper body like the jaw, back, neck or arms. Shortness of breath, light headedness and nausea or vomiting."

Coming up on Wednesday, Rebecca will talk about National Wear Red Day.
