Neillsville Man Sentenced for Causing Accident

Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 -- 9:03 AM

-A Neillsville man arrested for causing an accident that resulted in injuries to him and his passenger was sentenced in Jackson County Court on Monday.

Back in February of last year, Jason Winge from Neillsville was traveling west on State Highway 95 when the vehicle started to slide sideways into the ditch near Avon Road in the Town of Alma. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled twice. Both Winge and his passenger, Tiffany Knight from Black River Falls, were not wearing their seat belts and they were thrown from the vehicle. Knight was transported by helicopter to a local hospital. Both Winge and Knight suffered non-life threatening injuries. Winge admitted drinking before the crash and was arrested.

During his court appearance on Monday, he was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, 2nd degree reckless injury, causing an injury while operating under the influence and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. A charge of refuse to take a test for intoxication after arrest was dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to years’ probation with 9 months in jail. He also owes restitution, had his license revoked and must install an ignition interlock device for 18 months.
