Sunday, January 22nd, 2017 -- 8:46 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin corn stocks in all positions as of December 2016 totaled 444 million bushels, according to the USDA's latest Grain Stocks report.

That's eight percent above a year ago and is the largest amount of corn in storage on record, surpassing the previous high of 413 million bushels set back in 1986. Of the total stocks, 57 percent were stored in on-farm storage facilities. Soybeans in storage totaled 67.1 million bushels, also the largest amount ever recorded; and six percent more than the previous record set the previous year. Of the total stocks, 31 percent were stored on farms.

There were 2.80 million bushels of oats in the bins last month, down a whopping 40 percent from the crop on hand in late-2015. And dry hay stored on Wisconsin farms as of December 1 is estimated at 3.20 million tons, an increase of 10 percent from December 2015. Disappearance from May 1, 2016, through December 1, 2016 totaled 1.54 million tons, compared with 1.90 million tons for the same period in 2015.
