Marshfield Man Sentenced for Hitting a Pedestrian

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 -- 10:07 AM

-A Marshfield man was sentenced in Wood County Court on Tuesday for hitting a pedestrian and leaving the scene.

Back in November of 2014, Robert Purkapile hit a man with his pickup truck at the intersection of North Central Avenue and Arnold Street. When an officer responded to the scene, a red pickup truck was pointed out to her. She began to follow the truck as it drove away and, when she pulled him over, Purkapile new that he hit someone, but drove away because he was scared. He had a blood alcohol level of .229%.

In the end, Purkapile was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, causing injury while operating with a PAC and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. A charge of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle was dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and had his licensed revoked for 12 months. He must also have an ignition interlock device on his vehicle for 12 months.
