Owen City Council Approves Police Training

-The Owen City Council approved some training for two Owen police officers at their meeting last week.

The council approved the “scenario instructor training” for Chief Schade and “FBI basic crises negotiation” for Office Boie and they also approved the training schedule. The council also heard about property at 219 East 3rd Street. Chief Schade reported that he and Dr. Jonathon Justice inspected the property. Both concluded that the home has mold throughout the house, 6’ of frozen septic in the basement and deemed the property uninhabitable. The council approved for Chief Schade to request Donna Hester provides a written statement to turn over the property to the City.

During the public opinion portion of the meeting, a resident inquired why the PSC did not provide public notice to the City of Owen utility customers and when is the train siren issue going to be worked on. The council also approved the Mayoral Appointments of Joann Jalling and Megan Wilczek to the Police Discipline Committee and Co-Chairman of the Owen Jr. Fair Rocky Lehr informed City Hall that the Owen Jr Fair will be held this year on July 21st-23rd with plans of a bigger carnival. Finally, the city clerk had discussions with the PSC and the city’s auditor about the city’s water rate. The PSC insists the city do a full rate application.
