Marshfield Man Charged After Fleeing from Officers

-A Marshfield man charged with leading officers on a high speed chase appeared in Wood County Court on Tuesday.According to authorities, 20-year-old Geronimo Mendieta Jr. sped away from officers after they noticed two vehicles that appeared to be racing on South Central Avenue. The officer said that the vehicle turned off its lights and he wasn’t able to catch up to it until his cruiser reached speeds of 108 mph. The officer chased the vehicle to the roundabout and Central Avenue and Heritage drive when the vehicle fishtailed, rolled and was launched in the air when the driver attempted to drive right through the center of the roundabout.
Mendieta Jr. was arrested and has been charged with fleeing an officer. If convicted and sentenced to the maximum amount he could spend 3.5 years in prison. He’s free on a $2,500 signature bond.
