Marshfield School Officials Learn More About New Athletic Facilities

(Mike Warren, WDLB) -Marshfield school officials are starting to get a better sense of how much new and improved athletic facilities would cost, and how they could be done in phases over a period of years. The Marshfield Board of Education last night heard from John Kneer (kuh-NEER) from the Rettler Corporation of Stevens Point, who's been working on a plan to add and improve both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities in the district--including a new multi-use football and track stadium at the high school. Kneer told the board that the improvements could be done all at once, or in separate phases, with several tiers in each phase--taking into account items which are deemed absolutely essential, to non-essential amenities that would not necessarily be needed. Superintendent Dee Wells agreed that the Board should hold a special meeting to talk more in-depth about the plan, and how to pay for it.
The Board voted back in July in favor of at least the initial designs laid out by Rettler. Under the plan, the vacant lot adjacent to the Tiny Tiger Center across from the High School would be used to add a practice football and soccer field, a J-V baseball field and a 100-space parking lot. The plan also includes adding a combination football and outdoor track stadium just north and east of Marshfield High School. There would also be two softball diamonds and a soccer field added to the Madison Elementary property across Becker from Tiny Tiger and the high school, plus several improvements at the Middle School as well, including a new six-lane track and soccer field. No timeline was given for having a special meeting.
