(WDLB) -A video posted on Marshfield’s Wildwood Park & Zoo Facebook page has attracted worldwide attention. It was a Christmas Day posting showing the zoo’s whitetail deer eating their Christmas dinner. The meal was part of an annual event designed to provide enrichment for the zoo residents with gifts of apples, peanut butter, spices, perfume, honey, and other items meant to intrigue the animals. Zookeeper Steve Burns and zoo volunteer Pam Nikolai had the idea for the dining table, which they set up on December 17th??"and that’s when the video was taken.
Burns and Nikolai tell the Hub City Times they held off on posting the video until Christmas day, and by late Christmas night, it had 55 thousand views. By the next morning, it was at 100-thousand views and counting. City Parks & Recreation director Justin Casperson says the video has been viewed in Sweden, Canada, Iraq, Austria, Norway, the Netherlands, Romania, Serbia, and across the U-S--with the most popular location being Quebec, Canada. He says the zoo’s Facebook page increased its “likes” by four-thousand in one week, and since its posting, the deer video has hit six-million views with over 125-thousand shares.
