Assembly Speaker Open to Allowing Multiple Locations for Early Voting in Wisconsin

Wednesday, December 21st, 2016 -- 9:07 AM

(AP) -Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says he is open to allowing multiple locations for early voting in Wisconsin, after a federal judge threw out a law limiting it to one place per municipality.

Vos says it's not unreasonable to have more than one location in large cities like Milwaukee and fewer in smaller places. A federal judge in August struck down the law Vos and Republicans who control the Legislature passed that limited early voting locations and restricted the hours.

After the ruling Vos said he wanted the Legislature to revisit the law to put in place a standardized system for early voting times and locations. Under the judge's rulings communities were free to expand hours and locations, which led to the highest early voting turnout in Wisconsin history.
