Owen-Withee School Board Discusses WASB Education Convention

Thursday, December 15th, 2016 -- 9:03 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board discussed the WASB Education Convention at their meeting on Monday.

Registered attendees of the WASB Education Convention in Milwaukee in January are Kim Amacher, Rick Eloranta, Charlie Milliren, Dean Schmelzer, Julie Wendler and Bob Houts. Basic registration and hotels have been procured. Any extra sessions that board members wish to attend should be relayed to Bob Houts so he can get registration completed. The board was also informed that the WERC notified the district that both union groups, teachers and support staff have completed their recertification votes and that both groups have voted to continue their representation of their staffs. As in the past, the board will negotiate base wage calculations with the two groups.

Finally, the board heard an update on the school forest project. Brent Schneveis of Grass Creek Forestry has indicated that the logging of the school forest in the Town of Hoard, north of Owen, is on schedule for this winter. The project has been delayed due to getting a late start last winter and then a very wet summer season. Once things freeze solid, the logging portion of the project will begin. This means that the maple syrup system can be put in place this spring/summer and maple syrup production can begin in the spring of 2018.
