Marshfield School Board to Get More Information on Athletic Upgrades

Thursday, December 15th, 2016 -- 8:02 AM

(Mike Warren, WDLB) -Marshfield school officials will wait to get more information about proposed upgrades to athletic facilities before making any decisions regarding financing options or fundraising proposals.

Amber Kiggens-Leifheit chairs the Board of Education's Finance Committee, and she told the full board last night that the issue should be sent back to the Buildings-and-Grounds Committee before any monetary questions are answered. The Board voted back in July in favor of at least the initial designs laid out by the Rettler Corporation of Stevens Point. Under the plan, the vacant lot adjacent to the Tiny Tiger Center would be used to add a practice football and soccer field, a J-V baseball field and a 100-space parking lot.

The plan also includes adding a combination football and outdoor track stadium just north and east of Marshfield High School. There would also be two softball diamonds and a soccer field added to the Madison Elementary property across the street from the high school, plus several improvements at the Middle School as well, including a new six-lane track and soccer field. If the board built everything in the Rettler plan, it would cost an estimated nine-point-eight million dollars. Over half of that--five-point-eight-million--would be spent on the new football and track stadium at the high school.
