Black River Falls Inmate Sentenced for Escape Back in July of 2012

-A Black River Falls inmate charged with escaping from the Black River Falls Correctional Institution in July of 2012 was sentenced in Jackson County Court on Friday.The incident started in mid-July of 2012, when James Newman, and another inmate, James Misleveck, simply walked out the front door of the prison. During the escape, the two suspects stole a shotgun, carjacked a woman and took her hostage briefly and stole another vehicle before losing authorities in Tomah. They ended up in Florida where they beat up a store clerk and led authorities on a high speed chase before being caught and brought back to Wisconsin.
Newman was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, escape criminal arrest, kidnapping and theft of moveable property. Four other charges were dismissed, but read in. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison with 15 years of extended supervision. Misleveck was sentenced to a total of 35 years in prison and 21 years of extended supervision.
