Clark County UW-Extension Office Offers Info on Health Insurance

Thursday, December 8th, 2016 -- 7:40 AM

-The presidential election brings new leadership to Washington, DC and, with it, many questions about the future of health insurance, the Affordable Care Act, and Medicaid.

The Clark County UW-Extension Office would like consumers to know that all insurance options remain available to them for the coming 2017 calendar year. The Marketplace offers a variety of plans to choose from and most counties have at least three different health insurance companies to choose from. It is currently open enrollment for the Marketplace, which is the time of year when most of us have the opportunity to look at health insurance options and select a plan. Many need to act now as open enrollment ends on January 31st. By law, most people must have health insurance or will likely pay a fee of up to $2,085 or more per household.

Other insurance option include from you job, Medicare and BadgerCare Plus. Covering Wisconsin has created a how-to sheet titled Health Insurance Options for you and your Family available online at coveringwi.org that explains each of the options in further detail. To make the process of finding and enrolling for health insurance easier, there are a variety of community organizations that provide free, in-person health insurance help. Call 2-1-1 to find local help, or contact the Clark County Navigator at 715-720-2840 ext. 1218.
