Unity Man Dies After Being Run Over by His Truck

Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 -- 1:15 PM

-One person is dead due to the injuries he received 17 days earlier when he tried to jump in his truck and stop it from rolling backwards at the Village of Unity’s dump site.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call of someone that had been run over at the Village of Unity’s dump site on 2nd Street at about 3:39 pm, on Thursday, November 15th 2016. Initial investigation indicates Alfred E. Weideman 71 years old, was taking some yard waste to the Unity Village dump site when he parked and exited his truck. Alfred left the door open and kept the engine running. The truck started to roll backwards and Alfred tried to jump back inside to stop it.

Alfred fell on the ground and was run over by the truck as it continued backwards. The truck ran over his chest and neck area and continued to roll until it hit a pile of gravel and stopped.

Alfred was transported to the Marshfield hospital by the Spirit Air Helicopter. Alcohol does not appear to be factor in the accident. It was reported that Alfred was having transmission problem with the truck prior to the accident. Alfred died on the evening of Friday December 2nd.

The Colby Fire and EMS responded to the scene with the Spirit Air Helicopter, the Abbotsford-Colby Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
