Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 -- 10:31 AM

(WDLB) -If you are still working on your Christmas gift list, “Alice in Dairyland” Ann O’ Leary says the “Something Special from Wisconsin” program is a great resource.

"All of the companies that are a part of this, "Something Special from Wisconsin" group, have at least 50% of their product's ingredients, packaging or production attributed to our state. So, you know when you purchase those products, your money is staying here in Wisconsin to go back to support our farmers, communities and Wisconsin economy. And there's are over 100 different companies that are a part of this program."

The “Something Special from Wisconsin” program is administered by the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, and O’ Leary serves as spokesperson for the department through her role as “Alice”. And she says the program was first established in 1983, and allows to people to buy local, and surveys indicate that over 70 percent of Wisconsin consumers are more likely to purchase a commodity made or grown in Wisconsin than one from outside the state.

"Many of these are going to be small, family run businesses. All of the companies that are a part of this program have at least 50% of their goods or services attributed to Wisconsin ingredients, Wisconsin production or Wisconsin packaging. So, you know it's made here in the state and when you purchase them your money is staying within Wisconsin."

O’ Leary says just look for the red “Something Special from Wisconsin” label. For more information, a database of businesses involved with the program can be found online, at www.somethingspecialwi.com.
