Several Cases of Identity Theft and Debit Card Fraud in Marshfield

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 -- 9:07 AM

(WDLB) -The Marshfield Police Department is looking into a number of identity theft and debit card fraud cases.

Seven of the cases involve accounts at Simplicity Credit Union in Marshfield. Seven different people have come forward to say there’s been unauthorized activity involving their accounts since last weekend. At least three of the victims say their debit card numbers were used in the Madison area without their permission. A Marshfield man also came forward to report there had been charges totaling an estimated 13-hundred dollars on his Simplicity account which he did not authorize. Another Marshfield man says his Simplicity account was used on two occasions in Milwaukee on Sunday. Two other Marshfield victims are reporting a pattern of fraud involving the use of their Simplicity accounts in Wausau and Woodbury, Minnesota, plus unauthorized cash withdrawals as well. Those cases involve more than one-thousand dollars each.

Several other similar reports have come in which do not identify the financial institution. Meanwhile, Forward Financial in Marshfield has reported that a skimming device was placed on their drive-through A-T-M at 207 West Sixth in Marshfield earlier this month. And Braun’s Automotive is reporting a case of identity theft. A 52-year-old Marshfield man used a stolen credit card to pay for 580-dollarsworth of automotive work last week.
