WI DNR To Adopt Federal Air Pollution Standards
Friday, November 25th, 2016 -- 10:34 AM
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' board is set to adopt federal air pollution standards four years after they were published.According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published new limits on fine particulate matter in early 2013. Wisconsin law requires the DNR to adopt similar rules but the agency didn't do it. Environmental groups Clean Wisconsin and the Midwest Environmental Defense Center sued in 2014 to force compliance. DNR officials said then that work on the rules was going slowly.
The agency and the groups reached a settlement last year that calls for the DNR to put the rules in place. DNR officials say all areas of the state are within the limits. The board is set to OK the rules at a Dec. 14 meeting in Madison
