Wisconsin Wins Program, Final
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016 -- 11:16 AM
-The Clark County Health Department has completed their Wisconsin Wins checks for 2016.I spoke with Rebecca Rosandick, the Health Educator/Public Health Specialist with Clark County, and she ended our interview by stating that these checks are not meant to penalize retailers, but to thank them for refusing to sell tobacco products to minors.
"When retailers or people in the community hear about Tobacco Compliance Checks, the point is not to get retailers in trouble. I just want to really stress that the point of this program is to reward retailers and say thank you for not selling tobacco to our youth."
"We are required, through our program, to report anybody that does sell to the local police department. What they do and what goes on at that point is not up to us. That's up to whatever jurisdiction the retailer falls under if they are to receive a penalty or not. Last year when I conducted these checks, in 2015, there were also two places in the county that didn't pass. And they weren't cited. They were given a warning. Like I said, the whole point of this program is positivity and thank them for not selling tobacco to our minors."
Again, the Clark County Health Department thanks all retailers for their diligence when it comes to keeping tobacco from minors.
