Owen-Withee School Board Summary
Monday, November 21st, 2016 -- 10:21 AM
The Owen-Withee School Board discussed a lighting project at their meeting last week.District Administrator Bob Houts presented to the Board a proposal to change the fluorescentbulbs in the building to LED bulbs. Total cost of re-lamping the building, using the existing fixtures would be $30,500. But, with rebates from Focus on Energy and Xcel Energy, the cost of the project to the District would be roughly $12,500. Energy savings realized by the project would save the district approximately $8,500 per year, which means the project would pay for itselfin about 1.5 years. The board, by voice vote, approved moving forward with the project.
The board also discussed basement flooding procedures. There was a question regarding the procedures followed when the area sees heavy rain with the potential for the boiler room to flood. Mr. Houts told the Board that the district has a head of maintenance on duty during the day that is responsible for this. The district has a lead custodian on duty during the late afternoon until mid-night and then the head of maintenance takes over the responsibility until the start of the next day. A suggestion of looking at a wet floor sensor was discussed and will be investigated.
