Wisconsin Wins Program, Part 1
Thursday, November 17th, 2016 -- 11:14 AM
-The Clark County Health Department has completed their Wisconsin Wins checks for 2016.I spoke with Rebecca Rosandick, the Health Educator/Public Health Specialist with Clark County, and she explained what the Wisconsin Wins Program is.
"The Wisconsin Wins Campaign is a state level initiative and it's designed to decrease youth access to tobacco products. So that can be like snuff, e-cigarettes, regular cigarettes, anything with tobacco in it. The campaign was launched to ensure federal regulation and that requires states to maintain a youth access rate of less than 20%. And this is part of a comprehensive approach to preventing youth's access to tobacco."
"So actually, in 2016, the number of compliance checks that we're required to do in Clark County increased. So, there were 38 total checks across the county that were conducted in 2016. And a certain percent of these places had to be bars, golf courses, and restaurants. They couldn't all just be gas stations and convenience stores."
Coming up on Friday, Rebecca will explain how the students that participate in the check are selected and the rules they follow.
