Greenwood School Board Discusses Many Items at Monday Meeting

-The Greenwood School Board discussed items from various committee meetings at their meeting on Monday.

For the Employee Relations Committee, they met on November 1st and discussion centered on prioritizing possible topics and an action plan. In regards to finance, there was discussion by board members of only receiving compensation for meetings they attend. No action was taken, but the administrator was directed to gather more information. However, board pay is determined at the Annual Meeting so no action can be taken until then if change is to be made. The district is also investigating the logistics and economic benefits of joining in a health insurance cooperative with surrounding districts. It was also mentioned that Greenwood had the highest 2015-16 ACT scores in the county, but overall they were comparative to neighboring districts.

In regards to policy, the district’s Vision Statement, Core Values, and Motto were approved. The board also conducted a second reading of the 6000 and 7000 series of policies and approved both as well as the first reading of the 8000’s and 9000’s series Operations and Relations. It was also stated that pond erosion in the outdoor classroom caused by the September 21-22 rain will be repaired after the ground freezes. Finally, the board was provided a reminder on employment timelines and the administration will be conducting a review and revision of employment documents-letters of intent, letters of assignment, contract, etc.
