Presentations at Owen-Withee School Board Meeting

Thursday, November 17th, 2016 -- 8:06 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board started their meeting on Monday with two presentations.

Two Service Learning projects from the elementary school were highlighted at the meeting. First, Ms. Rahn and Mr. Pankratz, Owen-Withee’s fifth grade teachers, presented to the board on the new school store that just opened last week. As part of their “Hawk Time,” the elementary school’s RtI program, 5th graders identified for enrichment are given a job in in their business and given daily tasks to complete to make sure their business is profitable and efficient. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, during the late afternoon hours, the store is open for elementary students to purchase school supplies and snacks. Proceeds from the school store will be donated to charities that the 5th grade students select.

Secondly, Mrs. Katie Hatlestad and Ms. Tranberg presented on the Service Learning focus and cooperative efforts being undertaken by their 1st and 3rd grade classes. The service learning projects that they have undertaken, which must have a curricular connection, have included the 2016 election and working with the Clark County Humane Society. The group will also be involved with the high school’s Project Fruit Basket around the Christmas Holidays and the Community Service Day held in the spring. The joint efforts of the 1st and 3rd grade classes have led to not only curricular involvement, but the development of leadership and service initiatives as well.
