Diet Tips from Memorial Medical Center Registered Dietician Ben Mohr, Part 6

Tuesday, November 15th, 2016 -- 8:47 AM

-When it comes to a proper diet, navigating all the different roads of information can be difficult.

I spoke with Ben Mohr, Registered Dietician at Memorial Medical Center, and he answered some common questions people have when it comes to their diets. Ben talked about whether you should or shouldn’t take a multivitamin.

"It's kinda of a tricky question to answer for everyone. If someone is consuming a variety of foods throughout the day, they more than likely don't need a multivitamin. But if you're eating the same things or you're not eating many fruits and vegetables, it's probably not going to be a bad idea. I often think that those that are health conscious enough to go and have a multivitamin, they more than likely don't need one. Where as those that aren't thinking of it, it's more than likely they do need one."

He also explained the amount of water you should drink from day to day.

"You'll hear the 8x8 rule, which is 8 glasses of 8 ounces, so that's 64 ounces in a day. Which would be good. And many people, they need a different amount depending on their age and weight, etc. An easy way to figure it out is to take your own weight and cut it in half and that's about how many ounces you need in a day. And that can be from water, juice, anything that you're drinking pretty much. And even watery fruits and vegetables. Like watermelon is mostly water. That can count towards those ounces as well.

Coming up on Tuesday, Ben will talk about caffeine.
