Neillsville City Council News

Monday, November 14th, 2016 -- 9:49 AM

The Neillsville City Council approved the Christmas Eve holiday date at their meeting on Thursday.

Because Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday this year, the council approved city employees taking their Christmas Eve Holiday on Friday, December 23rd. The council also approved an ordinance amending chapter 4 of boards, commissions and committees. The change is in regards to the city’s Tourism Committee. A new Wisconsin State Statute states that any room tax money acquired has to go to a tourism entity, more specifically, a tourism commission. There are various other guidelines that need to be followed by this commission with the room tax money.

This ordinance changes Neillsville’s Tourism Committee to a Tourism Commission, which will consist of 5 members, one needing to be the owner or operator of a lodging facility, and all others can be city officials or residents. The mayor has to appoint the members for one year terms, but they need to be approved by the Common Council. There are a list of duties the commission needs to follow as well. The council did ask that wording from the State Statute that defines what qualifies as tourism promotion and development be added to the ordinance
