Diet Tips from Memorial Medical Center Registered Dietician Ben Mohr, Part 5

Friday, November 11th, 2016 -- 11:23 AM

-When it comes to a proper diet, navigating all the different roads of information can be difficult.

I spoke with Ben Mohr, Registered Dietician at Memorial Medical Center, and he answered some common questions people have when it comes to their diets. Ben talked about the about of miles needed during exercise to lose weight.

"One mile is roughly 100 calories that you'll burn. So, when you put it into that aspect, it might sound kinda crazy, but to get that 3,500 calories you have to do 35 miles."

He also talked about whether fat is good or bad.

"No, you still need fat. Fat in your diet can be a good thing because that can help you absorb different vitamins. Some vitamins need fat in order to be absorbed, so there is good fat and there is bad fat and that can affect your body differently."

He then elaborated more on good fat.

"You can have both kinds of fats. Either one will help you absorb those vitamins. But the good fats are the ones that are good for your cholesterol. So, good fats are unsaturated fats like nuts, avocados, olive oil, those kinds of things."

Coming up on Monday, Ben will talk about multivitamins.
