-The Granton Village Board heard an MSA update at their meeting on Wednesday.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, it was stated that the Lift Station and SCADA are complete and final payments have been requested. They board also heard an update on the 4th phase of the phosphorous compliance. The DNR requirement for phosphorous compliance is .075. The village is currently at .56. A Phosphorous Compliance plan is currently underway and phase 4 is now required. The board approved the 4th Phase and to apply for a DNR variance for an MSA cost of $15,000.
There are 2 variances available, an Economic Variance which requires the Village to re-apply every 5 years and a Multi-Charge Variance that is valid for 15 years. If the Village qualifies for the Multi Charge Variance, they must be able to reduce their Phosphorous levels on a scheduled basis. Failure to do this means the village will have a surcharge applied to any overages. If the Village qualifies, the Multi Charge Variance will be applied for.
