Diet Tips from Memorial Medical Center Registered Dietician Ben Mohr, Part 4

Thursday, November 10th, 2016 -- 10:30 AM

-When it comes to a proper diet, navigating all the different roads of information can be difficult.

I spoke with Ben Mohr, Registered Dietician at Memorial Medical Center, and he answered some common questions people have when it comes to their diets. Ben talked about eating before bed.

"You can still eat before you go to bed. You hear about the don't eat after 5pm rule or something like that, which I've heard a lot. But some people they don't eat much during the day, so you still need to have some sort of calories. But, when you think about the foods that you generally have before you go to bed. It's not like you have a regular meal. You're more having things like nighttime snacks. Popcorn. Ice cream. Those would be carbs, but there not going to be the ones that are best for you, so that's where you can see that weight gain too."

There is a number, in regards to calories, you should follow when trying to lose weight.

"What's recommended is that you cut out about 500 calories in a day and that would then lead to about a pound of weight loss a week. So, you need to cut or burn an extra 3,500 calories in order to lose one pound."

Coming up on Friday, Ben will talk more about the amount of exercise needed to lose weight.
